Sorghum Sudangrass

LSS 410

LSS 410 has an outstanding forage production feature, sweetness and juiciness. It has finer stalks, fast emergence, good early vigor and quick re-growth. For maximum tonnage and palatability cut in the pre-boot stage. Cut approximately six inches from the ground for quick re-growth. It is disease resistant to Downy Mildew and other foliar diseases.

Plant Height: 6-8 feet
Usage: Grazing and Haying

LSS 430BMR

LSS 430 BMR sorghum sudangrass can be used for direct grazing, haying and haylage. It is a premium hybrid that has the BMR characteristics which significantly increases digestibility and palatability. The stems feel and look softer and will appear more limber with distinct brownish color. Increased gains can be expected when animals are fed equal quantities compared to other forages. This hybrid has long narrow leaves, excellent standability and re-growth capabilities. Disease and drought performance arevery good and green leaf retention at harvest is excellent.

Plant Height: 6-8 feet
Usage: Grazing, Haying and Haylage

LSS 440BMR

LSS 440 BMR is a break through hybrid! This is the first true photoperiod sensitive and brown midrib forage sorghum. It has medium sized stems with very long wide leaves, excellent standability with both tillering and re-growth capabilities. Maturity is undeterminable since the hybrid is sensitive to day-length. Mature plant height should range from 7 to 15 feet depending upon environment and management. If hybrid is to be used for hay, haylage or green chop it should be harvested at approximately 70 days of sowing. If it is used for direct grazing, animals should be placed on the hybrid when it reaches 36 inches.

Plant Height: 7-15 feet
Usage: Grazing, Haying, Haylage, Silage, and Green Chop

Planting Tips

  • Grazing, Haylage or Green Chop: Plant in 20-30" rows (reduces trampling from cattle) and seed at 15-18# per acre.
  • Haying: Drill in 6-10” rows and seed at 20-25# per acre.
